Designing Senior Class Shirts

Blog

It's senior year. You've been waiting for this your whole life and now it's finally your turn in the spotlight. What better way to distinguish yourself than by designing senior class shirts? Here are the top things to know about designing and printing t-shirts for you and your fellow seniors.

Designing the Graphic

A senior class shirt with personality quickly becomes sentimental- and when things are sentimental, you keep them around. But how do I design the perfect graphic to represent my class? First, ask for multiple opinions to see what really matters to your class. Don't go with inside jokes or things that won't relate with the majority. This is a project for everyone, so keep the theme subtle and more people will relate to it. Also, figure out where you want the graphic placed, and if you want embellishments on the sleeves, back, front or sides.

Selecting the Shirt

There are a few things to consider when you're selecting the shirt for your project.

  • Style: If your senior school shirt is comfortable, your friends are more likely to wear it and show the rest of the school that you have class unity. There are so many options these days; you don't have to go with the standard unisex cut anymore. But, don't try to make this decision on your own. Pick a few styles, then ask multiple people what they would prefer to wear.
  • Color: It's always good to go with a color that is meaningful. School spirit colors, or something that compliments them are a good option. Also, consider your climate: dark fabrics are hotter and lighter fabrics are cooler. Also, what color will complement the design you have worked so carefully on?

Printing Options

When you design your own senior shirt, there are two main printing processes you can go with: screen print or digital.

  • Screen printing starts with a stencil and applies layers of color directly to the shirt. The finished product has a thicker layer of color, so the design is usually more bold and bright. It works especially well on dark colored fabrics.
  • Digital printing uses a printer to apply a thin layer of color onto your clothing. This kind of printing will show finer details, but is usually best for small quantity orders. Keep that in mind as you consider your class size.

Once you've (1) designed the graphic, (2) picked the style and color, and (3) figured out what kind of printing works best for you, you are ready to order! Bulk orders will keep the cost low, and will make distribution easy with a one-time pick up for your classmates. Make the shirts available just before the big game, graduation or whatever event you hope to see them at.

Accessories Complete Your Outfit

Hi. My name is Candy Lewis. I’m a stay at home mom in my mid-thirties. Taking care of my children and our home can wear me down. Sometimes I’m exhausted to the point of not caring what I look like when I leave the house. However, when I do have the time to put an outfit together, I depend heavily on accessories to complete the look. I have learned that I can have an ordinary sweater on but when adding a necklace it turns into an extraordinary look. Jewelry, handbags, belts, shoes and hats can all finish off an outfit. I’m happy to share some of my accessorizing tips with you. Some are very simple. I feel ten years younger when I take a cute little over the shoulder handbag and sling it over my head and shoulder. I hope you find my tips to be of interest!
